Aerophones

conch shell

Aerophones create sound by causing air to vibrate. A Western aerophone is the trombone. Any orchestral brass or woodwind instrument, such as the Clarinet, saxophone, or tuba, falls into this category.

A unique non-Western aerophone is a conch shell. After cutting off the top of the shell, the musician buzzes their lips, just like a brass instrument, to create sound. You can change the pitch by loosening or tightening your lips. Also, your hand can be placed inside the instrument to alter its pitch, much like a French Horn. The conch shell is used in some religious ceremonies.
