Double Bass

The double bass or upright bass is very large and the players have to stand or sit on a high stool in order to play them. Double basses have four strings. From lowest to highest these are E-A-D-G. Because of the length and thickness of the strings, the double bass can play very, very low notes.

Double basses can be heard in most kinds of musical settings. Every style of music needs a bass of some kind to provide the bottom or bass notes of harmonies. Double basses can be heard in symphony orchestras, bluegrass bands, country and western bands, Zydeco music, as well as small and large jazz bands.
