Percussion instruments all share the way in which they create sound. Most are hit or shaken to cause vibration. They add accent and attention to specific places in a musical score. Percussion instruments also act as the timekeepers for bands and orchestras. Percussion instruments were some of the first instruments fashioned by man. They are found in one form or another across the globe. Different cultures have developed different understandings of rhythm and drumming.
