Single Reeds

Single reed instruments include all of the clarinets and all of the saxophones. These instruments produce sound by attaching a thin piece of cane or composite material, called a reed, to the mouthpiece, then blowing against the reed causing it to vibrate. The larger the instrument, the larger the mouthpiece and reed.
