Medium: Oil

Oil paint became a popular medium during the Renaissance. Typically mixed with linseed oil, thick application of oil paint could result in a three dimensional appearance, giving the painting texture. This aided artists, such as the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, in achieving the sketchy and painterly appearance.
