A Disaster
Although The Last Supper created by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most recognizable and well known works of art, it was a disaster! Leonardo attempted to mix oil paint and wet plaster.
Did you ever try mixing oil and water? It doesn’t really mix. Oil floats to the top and separates from the water. This was the case with Leonardo’s painting. Shortly after he completed it, the paint began to flake. It has undergone numerous renovations since 1498, and barely survived a bombing during World War II.
