Color (continued)

Color theory has been studied by scientists and artists alike; both groups are interested in learning how our eyes perceive color. White light is the combination of all the colors, or hues, on a spectrum, which can be distinguished by shining light through a prism. ROYGBIV is an acronym used to remember the colors of the spectrum: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet.

In art, white is the absence of all color while black is the mixing of all colors. There are no colors that you can mix together to get the pigment white, but you can mix all the colors together and get the pigment black.
