Texture
Another formal element that can be manipulated by an artist to achieve a final product is texture. Texture is more apparent with three-dimensional objects, such as the Nike of Samothrace; however, it can also exist on a two-dimensional surface. For example, the texture of an Impressionist painting with broad, thick strokes of oil paint can have just as much texture as a sculpture.
