Fad Diets

Good nutrition is a two-sided coin. Not only must you ensure that you consume an adequate supply of essential nutrients, you must also be sure that your intake is suitable for your lifestyle. One major health concern for Americans is obesity. As you read earlier, the percentage of people overweight in America continues to increase. This has led to another health concern—the problem of fad diets. Fad diets offer quick weight loss if you follow their food plan, but they may have serious nutritional deficiencies. Weight loss will almost certainly be an issue for someone you care about now or in the future. How will you respond? What can you do to be sure that the weight loss plan is healthy?
