Greece
Hippodamos was an ancient Greek city planner who, during the 5th century BC, devised a system of city blocks for Athens. His concern for order resulted in equal divisions of land and separation of public, religious, and private spaces.
Over two thousand years later, Greece is still a bustling region; however, the densely populated peninsular nation appears to lack the same organized planning that it once had—a problem that appears when there is little available land yet a large populace. Today, Athens has a population of nearly 4 million. The pollution levels have increased and homes appear to have sprouted up on top of each other—an inevitable situation given the number of people.
