Los Angeles, California
Another city that has encountered a tremendous growth spurt is Los Angeles, California. As the population increased and the city’s infrastructure became older, people began to move to the suburbs, residential communities within commuting distance to the city. The large freeway system allowed people to travel to work in the city, yet obtain newer homes with larger lots of land for less money. However, even with 12 traffic lanes, the freeways are still congested. Some commuters spend 1 ½ hours to travel a total of 20 miles!
