Notre Dame Cathedral

Christian churches typically have human and spiritual representations. This is evident throughout the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, but most dramatically in its rose windows. The circular stained glass windows contain images of Biblical figures and events.

Begun in 1163, this structure is an ideal example of Gothic architecture. One of the key elements of Gothic churches is the flying buttress, which provides external support for the large, vaulted ceilings.
