Design and Planning: Introduction
Architecture has a direct impact on other fields such as design and planning. Design, or the way in which the elements are arranged, affects all people in their daily activities. From the type of furniture found in a home to the style of the car one drives, design is a key element. For example, upon entering a home from colonial America, you would expect to find chairs and tables representative of that time period. It would be quite odd to find modern-day furniture in an older home.
This section will take a look at three design movements of the 19th and 20th centuries that were a direct complement to the architecture of the era. In addition, you will learn about planning and how communities evolve.
