Module 2: Section D
Step up: Guided Writing
The first time you hit a tennis ball or a baseball you probably had someone standing behind you, guiding your movements. In this way you were able to feel what the correct form should feel like, and you could begin to create a muscle memory of that skill. How do you think your writing might be guided? What parts of the process are most difficult to guide? Why?
One way the writing process can be guided is via modeling or imitation. In this unit you have taken a journey with Ryan toward saving his beloved library, an historic building that reflects his heritage. You were there when Mrs. Walker showed him how to craft a thesis and identify his main points of support. Now you will follow his examples to complete your own persuasive project.
You practiced the skills of thesis writing, formulating general support, and adding evidence using the graphic organizer on the Stake Your Claim Proposal Worksheet.
In the coming pages, you will use Ryan's example to complete the steps in the writing process. For each coming step, look at Ryan's model for each step, complete that step for your assignment and then evaluate how the model helped you.
NOTE:
- Before you begin writing, review the Writing Assignment: Prove It assignment requirements.
- Ryan's model will provide the format to follow for Part II of the assignment.
