Module 2: Section D

Logical Fallacies

Listening for logical fallacies can be a bit like listening for the wrong note in a piece of music, especially if it is only off by a half step. The more you hear fallacies, the more easily you can pick them out in a debate to defeat your opponent, and the more easily you will be able to avoid them.

In this section you have learned about the following fallacies:

• Circular Reasoning
• Red Herring
• Borrowed Authority
• False Dilemma Or Either/Or
• Paradox
• False Analogy
• The Slippery Slope
• Broad Generalization
• Straw Man
• Ad Hominem
• Ad Populum
• Non-sequitur
•
Begging the question
