The graph below shows the temperature change over time.  Use it to answer the questions below.

graph with points showing time versus temperature, points at approximately (1, 78), (2, 74), (3, 71), (4, 69), (5, 65) and (6, 62)

What is the y-intercept? What does it mean?

The y-intercept is 81. It was 81 degrees when measurement began.

What is the slope? What does it mean?

The slope is -3. The temperature decreased 3 degrees per hour.

What is the equation of the line?

m = -3
b = 81
so, y = -3x + 81 where x is time in hours and y is temperature in degrees.

What will the temperature be after 10 hours?

y = -3x + 81
y = -3(10) + 81
y = -30 + 81
y = 51
The temperature would be 51 degrees after 10 hours if the trend continued.
