Lines and the Coordinate Plane: The Coordinate Plane

Examples

coordinate axis with point B 3 units to the left and 1 unit up, point C 4 units to the left and 2 units down

To find the coordinate of point B, we count three units to the left, then up one unit.  The coordinate of point B are (-3, 1).

To find the coordinate of point C, we count four units to the left, then down two.  The coordinate of point C are (-4, -2).

Remember that when you move to the left or down, the coordinate is negative.  When you move to the right or up, the coordinate is positive.
