Sun Tunnels

In the Utah desert, earthwork artist Nancy Holt created the four Sun Tunnels pictured below. Completed in 1976 after three years of preparation and installation, each concrete tunnel weighs 22 tons and measures 18 feet in length and 9 feet in width. The tunnels contain drilled holes in the pattern of four constellations: Capricorn, Columba, Draco, and Perseus. An experience that can only be truly appreciated when in the presence of these tunnels, they are aligned to the winter and summer solstices.
