Basketry
Found first in North America, the craft of basketry has produced functional and ceremonial objects. Baskets have been used for food gathering, storing food, and ritual activities, and the fibers could even be woven together for furniture and clothing.
After collecting tree, plant, or grass fibers in the spring or summer, weavers could use one of three methods to generate the baskets: coiling, twining, or plaiting. Coiling is the process of sewing material together in a spiral fashion. Twining is the weaving of material in between vertical warps, or elements, such as twigs. Plaiting is the creation of a checkerboard pattern by weaving strips of material over and under one another.
