Comparing Things
Here is a review of how to “compare things” that you learned in the Level Two Japanese course. Use these patterns to practice and review “comparing things”. You can also find a more thorough explanation and many examples in Unit 6 in the previous Level Two course.
| To say something is MORE than something else (i.e., more fun, taller, etc.) |  |

The red shoes are prettier (MORE pretty) than the blue shoes.
赤いハイヒールは青いハイヒールより綺麗です 。

To emphasize these comparison statements even more, the word もっと can be used to mean “EVEN MORE”. Study the following examples that show different “degrees” of comparison and the patterns used to express them.
Examples:
このあおいくつ（青い靴）はいいです。 These shoes are good (okay).
あかいくつ（赤い靴）は青い靴よりいいです。 Red shoes are BETTER (MORE GOOD) than blue shoes.
赤い靴（のごう）がもっといいです。 The red shoes are EVEN BETTER (EVEN MORE GOOD) .
