Size Comparisons

Imagine you are with your friend shopping at the mall. Respond to her questions in complete sentences in Japanese. Click each image to see the correct response.

このドレスは　どうですか。	とても　エレガントに　みえます。
このブラウスは　からだに　あいますか。	からだに　よく　あいます。
しまのシャツと　こうしじまのシャツと　どちらが　すきですか。	わたしは、しまのシャツのほうが　すきです。
このブラウスは、このズボンに　あいますか。	いいえ、そのブラウスは、そのズボンに　あいません。

 

Sizeサイズ

Sizing in other countries is not the same as it is in the United States. If you are shopping in Japan you will have to look for a different size than you would in the U.S. The measurements in Japan are numbers in centimeters. In general, clothing is much smaller in Japan than it is in the U.S.
Here are some quick equivalents:

	しょう（小） Small	ちゅう（中） Medium	だい（大） Large
日本のサイズ	5-7 / 9	8 / 10	12-14 / 16
アメリカのサイズ	8/10	11/ 13	15-17 / 19

Describing Clothing
