Writing Practice Pets

As in the United States, it is common in Japan for people to have a pet. Can you guess what some of the most common pets are in Japan? If you guess dogs and cats, you are correct. Even though Japanese people don’t have much space in their houses or they live in apartment buildings, interest in pets is increasing.

Other pets such as fish (goldfish, carp and tropical fish), small birds (canaries, parakeets and Java sparrows), turtles, frogs, hamsters and insects (crickets, beetles etc.) are also common. Some people also enjoy “virtual” pets such as “Tamagotchi” and “Nintendog”.
