Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, rises to a height of 12,389 feet (3,776 meters). It is a well-known symbol of Japan and is frequently depicted in art and photographs, as well as visited by sightseers and climbers.

Japan has four distinct seasons. Since the country extends so far from north to south, its climate ranges from subarctic to subtropical. The northern most island, ほっかいどう, has short springs and summers and is cool with little rain throughout the year. Winters are severe there, with snow from November through April. On the other hand, the southern islands, おきなわ and いしがきじま, are known for high temperatures and rain throughout the year.
