Quadrilaterals and Polygons: Polygons

Exterior Angles in a Polygon

The sum of the exterior angles of a polygon is much easier to remember than what you just learned about the interior angles in a polygon

The sum of the exterior angles of any convex polygon is 360°. It does not matter how many sides the polygon has, the exterior angles will always sum to 360°.

Example: What is the sum of the exterior angles of a regular hexagon? Find the measure of each angle.

The exterior angles will have a sum of 360°. Since it is a regular hexagon and all six angles will be congruent, to find each angle measure, we simply divide 360° by 6.

Measure of each exterior angle = the fraction 360 degrees over 6 equals 60 degrees
