There are many mountains to climb in Japan, including the most famous mountain, Mount Fuji. Although many natural places can be accessed by train, to get to some of the most beautiful places you would have to climb or take alternate means of transportation. The Central Alps and Southern Alps are beautiful and many Japanese people and visitors to Japan visit the many beautiful natural sites in Japan.

Many places have "ropeways" or cable cars and to get the top of mountains and peaks, and these may only requires a short hike to reach the peak after the ride. There are many campgrounds and national parks to visit and see the beautiful nature Japan has to offer.

In the Northern part of Japan, where it snows heavily in winter time, people often make Kamakura (かまくら) which are snow huts.
