My Own Family vs. Someone Else's Family
There is another set of family vocabulary that is used when you talk about someone else's family. The words actually sound more polite.
Within one's family, the expressions with the arrow « are used to address senior members. First names are used only toward younger members.

In Japanese, number + がつexpresses the month. To say the date, we use number + にち. There are exceptions for the first through the tenth day, the fourteenth, the twentieth, and the twenty fourth.
