The family is sitting formal style in front of the tokonoma (alcove) in our tatami-style sitting room. In Unit Six, we are going to learn to talk about the people in our own families as well as talk about family celebrations in Japan. (Source: TJF)

You may be asked to gather information through Deai: The Lives of Seven Japanese High School Students.

You must keep in mind that fluency in Japanese (or any foreign language) does not happen over night. It may seem to be a very slow process to you but it is one that is achieved the more you practice and seek ways to use your new skills.

In Family you will:

  1. talk about your family members
  2. talk about your family members' birthdays and ages
  3. review dates and numbers
  4. learn the dictionary forms of verbs
  5. investigate cultural practices in Japanese families
  6. start to read and write kanji
