Drug Use: Risks
There are many risks of drug use besides the health effects. There is an increased rate of accidents, car accidents and accidental deaths among drug users for example. Crime rates increase. One may need money for drugs and become involved in illegal ways to get that money. Some drugs create a more violent attitude in a person which can lead to violence. If a woman is pregnant and abuses drugs there can be fetal developmental problems. Improper use of needles and impaired judgment can lead to STDs. Death is a possibility with the abuse of drugs. Drug use also affects the economy and the family. If you are a drug user your family looses trust in you. The drug user may resort to violence and crime within the family. In the economy health care rates increase due to the results of violent crime and accidents, and prevention of crime and dealing with criminals affects the tax base within the community. Insurance costs go up with crime and violence. Also, work productivity decreases.
