Transformations: Translations and Reflections

Translations

The first transformation we are going to look at is translations.

A translation simply “slides” an object from one position to another.  It does not change the size, shape or orientation of the object.

Take a look at the following translations.

Star translated to the right
Translated Star

Notice that the dark green star has been translated to the right.  The result is the light green star that is the same size, shape and orientation.

Smiley face translated down

Notice that the dark yellow smiley face has been translated down.  The result is the light yellow smiley face that is the same size, shape and orientation.

Heart translated left and down
