Right Triangles and Trigonometry: Ratios of Right Triangles

Tutorial The Cosecant, Secant and Cotangent

There are three more trigonometric functions that you need to know.  These functions are the cosecant, the secant and the cotangent functions.  These are simply the reciprocal of the sine, cosine and tangent functions, respectively.

The cosecant of x, written csc x, is the reciprocal of the sine of x.

= the cosecant of x equals the quotient of 1 divided by the sine of x

The secant of x, written sec x, is the reciprocal of the cosine of x.

the secant of x equals the quotient 1 divided by the cosine of x

The cotangent of x, written cot x, is the reciprocal of the tangent of x.

cotangent of x equals the quotient 1 divided by the tangent of x
