Anchor Text: Examining Themes

In this section, you will practice your analysis skills while looking at various excerpts from literature. Specifically, you will be practicing identifying evidence in a work, and connecting those pieces of evidence to decide the theme of the work. Analyzing literature takes some of the same skills as being an investigator! You need to examine a variety of evidence, decide what’s important and what’s not, and draw conclusions based on the evidence. To practice these skills, we will examine a different type of text: a visual text! Yes, you can analyze other types of media, such as a song, painting, or drawing, in similar ways to the written word!
