Photography: Camera Angles

In addition to the shot, a camera can also be tilted on an angle or hoisted to provide a specific angle. Of course, the camera can be at the actor’s eye-level, but there are other angles used for a more dramatic effect: 

  • Low angle: The camera is pointed up at the figure, making him appear powerful
  • High angle: The camera is pointed down towards a figure, making him appear small or insignificant
  • Bird’s-eye angle: This angle usually requires the use of a crane or other method of hoisting the camera above the scene and providing a view as if the audience were at a bird’s level
