Sexual Assault: Effects

There are many effects of sexual assault. They include:
- Physical- bruises, cuts, broken bones, nausea, vomiting, headaches, pregnancy, STDs
- Emotional – shame, guilt, shock, denial, anger, depression
- Psychological – panic attacks, eating and sleeping disorders, insomnia, self-mutilation
According to the National Center for Victims of Crimes, victims of sexual assault will respond in different ways because of many different factors that can influence an individual's response to and recovery from sexual assault. These include:
- The victim's age and developmental maturity
- The victim's support network
- The relationship to the offender
- Response by the police and medical personnel and many other factors.
