decide modelActivity: Suicide Prevention DECIDE Model5 points

Refer to Section A, page 6 to review the DECIDE Model:

Define the problem/issue.
Explore the alternatives or options. What are your choices, given these circumstances?
Consider the consequences. What are the pros and cons for each option?
Identify your values. What is most important to you, and how do these options fit your beliefs?
Decide and take action.
Evaluate and revise. Experience may show you a better way to decide next time.

Now, using the information you have learned in this section, complete the DECIDE Model based on the following scenario.

Your best friend, who has confided to you that he/she is under a doctor’s care for extreme depression, has told you that he/she feels that life is not worth living. Today at lunch your friend told you that he/she had attempted suicide twice this past weekend. You are the only one who knows about the suicide attempts. Your friend made you promise that you would not tell anyone.

Use the myths and facts concerning suicide that you learned about in this section to help you make a decision.

When you have finished, submit your completed assignment to the Activity: Suicide Prevention DECIDE Model assignment link. The rubric for the DECIDE Model activities can be found within the Getting Started section.
