Mental and Emotional Health
Mental and Emotional Health
When many people think of health, they think about eating right and exercising. While these are both important aspects of overall health, this course will show that a person interested in good health must take into consideration not only the body, but also the mind, feelings, relationships with others, and the environment. One type of health is mental and emotional health.
Mental and emotional health refers to how people think, feel, and react toward themselves and other people in their daily lives. One way to think about mental and emotional health is to look at how effectively a person functions day to day. A person shows signs of positive mental health if he or she can generally feel capable and competent, handle normal levels of stress, maintain satisfying relationships, express emotions appropriately, lead an independent life, have the flexibility to meet challenges, and be able to recover from difficult situations.
Mental and emotional health includes topics such as emotions, feelings, psychology, spirituality, ideas about self and others, self-esteem and self-worth, problem solving, creativity, and mental disorders.
