National Core Arts Standards (NCAS)
Overview - cont.
In SY 2015-16 - 83% of all DoDEA students took fine arts classes.
The NCAS are a product of both research and
understanding of best practices across states.
Understanding the difference between Do-
DEA’s current arts standards and the NCAS is
the underpinning for a successful implemen-
tation. This information will help DoDEA pri-
oritize how to deconstruct the standards and
make decisions around how the content
should be taught.
Therefore, a gap analysis has helped to guide
the work in developing a roadmap and ex-
pectations for what knowledge and skills stu-
dents need in order to achieve and be suc-
cessful in college and career.
100% of students in grades K-5 participated in both music and visual arts.
42% (6,566) middle school grades 6-8 students took a fine arts class.
61% (8,445) high school students were enrolled in fine arts classes.
