Strained Relations (continued)
Although the British deserted them, the Native Americans would have bigger problems to face with the creation of a new national army known as the Legion of the United States. In 1794, General “Mad” Anthony Wayne led the Legion to victory, defeating the Native Americans in the Battle of Fallen Timbers.
Additionally, the Miami, Delaware, Shawnee, and other tribes found themselves accepting terms stated in the Treaty of Greenville in 1795. According to the treaty, the tribes would loose two-thirds of the southern portion of Ohio. The treaty also declared that the Ohio River would no longer serve as a permanent boundary between their lands and those of the American settlers.
