Resistance, War, and Expansion: Introduction
1790–1820
After achieving independence from Great Britain, the colonies worked at establishing a newly identified relationship with the mother country. However, issues still remained with the indigenous populations. Their relationship with the natives of the land was hardly on the mend. In fact, strife continued to grow between the settlers and natives. As the nation developed, settlements expanded further into Native American lands. The end result would mean war between the two groups and their foreign alliances.
