Guatemalan Market

Teenagers everywhere love to shop. Hispanic teenagers are no exception to this. There are a wide variety of places to shop - markets, malls, boutiques and shops of all kinds. In this unit, we are going to learn about some interesting places one can shop in different Spanish-speaking countries as well as learn how to carry on a conversation with a sales clerk when you want to buy something. You will learn to talk about fashion in Spanish and learn additional expressions to use when talking about what you are wearing and what style of clothing you like. As you can see in the picture of a Guatemalan market, the market place is generally very colorful and full of life.

A shopping favorite for Spaniards is El Rastro. This is a large flea market that is "open" on Sundays in Madrid. El Rastro fills the streets of this Spanish neighborhood every Sunday and also draws quite a large crowd as people gather to come and see what treasures they can find.

You can see all kinds of things to buy in El Rastro; you can even see musicians and magicians trying to be seen and making a little money.
