Speaking Assignment: El Día Del Santo

Another typical Saint's Day occurrence is the singing of this song, Las Mañanitas. You are going to memorize it and record it for your teacher so you will most likely want to listen to it over and over again to really learn it well. You can see a poetic translation next to it. There are many versions of this song and the words vary quite a bit from area to area.

This is the morning song that King David sang ,
Today is your saint's day, we're singing it for you.
Wake up, my dear, wake up, look it is already dawn.
The little birds are already singing and the moon has set.
How lovely is the morning in which I come to greet you ,
We’re all coming with joy and pleasure to congratulate you.
The morning is coming now, the sun gave us its light.
Get up in the morning, look it is already dawn.
