Edad

When you describe your family, a simple way to describe them is to state their age.  In Spanish, we use the expression: tener....años to talk about how old someone is. Watch as we ask how old these people are. Listen to each one's response.

Play ¿Cuántos años tienes?	Play ¿Cuántos años tienes?
Play Tengo tres años.	Play Tengo siete años.
Play ¿Cuántos años tiene Sarita?	Play ¿Cuántos años tiene él?
Play Sarita tiene nueve años.	Play Tiene un año.

Another way is to state age relationships between people.  Below, we are talking about the ages of the brothers and sisters in relation to the other. We use the expressions mayor and menor to refer to older and younger.

Pablo tiene once años.	Es el hermano mayor.
Pepe tiene siete años	Es el hermano menor.
Lidia tiene nueve años.	Es la hermana mayor.
Paquito tiene diez meses.	Es el hermano menor.
