Key ConceptMore things you do

Let's learn to talk about some other things you do. Look and listen.

These expressions are just like the ones you learned in Section One. They are just additional things that you can talk about that you do (or don't do). Ckick Play to listen to the speakers and then repeat these as many times as you can until you can say each correctly, without having to listen first.

cultureすもう: National Sport of Japan

Sumo wrestling

すもう is the national sport of Japan. The tradition is very ancient, and even today すもう includes many ritual elements, such as the use of salt for purification. Professional Sumo started in the Edo Period as a form of sporting entertainment. Today, there are six Grand Sumo tournaments every year: three in Tokyo, and one each in Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. Tournaments are held every other month starting in January.

 More practice with numbers

Most young people love to talk on the phone. When you meet a new Japanese friend, you will need to know their phone number or でんわばんごう. In this activity you are going to practice the numbers again from 1-10 by listening to these phone numbers and seeing if you can write down the phone numbers.

Clip the Play button for each number. Click on the Japanese writing to see the correct answer. Remember の is used after the area code.
