Teen Pregnancy
No matter what method of contraception you choose, you need to be aware of the risks of teen pregnancy. The risks of teen pregnancy include:
- Lack of prenatal care: teens are at a higher risk for pregnancy-related high blood pressure, premature birth, low birth weight
- Teen bones and muscles stressed during pregnancy because they are still developing
- Teens more likely to have unhealthy life style to include:
- poor nutrition
- smoking
- drug use
- higher dropout rate
- Lower job skills
- STDs can be transferred to baby
- Chlamydia, can cause sterility
- Syphilis, can cause blindness, maternal/infant death
- HIV (treatment during pregnancy reduces risk of passing infection to baby)
