Human sexuality education, or sex education as it is often called, is a controversial subject. Some argue that sex education should not be taught in school, but rather the parents or church should be the primary source. This course provides factual information that can be important in understanding the complexities of sexuality. Without the full spectrum of information, how can a person make decisions that will contribute to the quality of his or her life?
As you will see in this unit, making healthy decisions will be important. Many of your decisions will be based on your own personal values. They should be made in consideration of who you are, what you believe, and what you have been taught by your parents, teachers, and religious or spiritual leaders. It is hoped that during the study of this unit you will develop a dialogue with your parents that will lead to a better understanding of your development and sexuality.
In this unit, you will be asked to examine information that may make you uncomfortable, just as it might have made your parents uncomfortable. It contains graphic photographs and sensitive content that is factual and neutrally presented.
