Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Abraham Maslow proposed a psychological theory called a Hierarchy of Needs.

Hierarchy of Needs and Wellness.

According to Maslow, you have to meet your basic needs first in order to address your needs at the next level. So how does this relate to wellness? If you look at the heirarchy, you must have food, shelter, and safety first before you can focus on meeting your emotional needs. If you have an unsafe environment, you can not increase your emotional wellness. Your need for environmental wellness, safety, takes priority.
