Risk Factors and Health

A risk factor is anything that increases your risk of injury, disease, or any health problem

.

Types of Risk Factors

Below is a list of risk factors that you can and cannot control. Although you have no control over your age, gender, and other uncontrollable risk factors, you should be aware of them and how they influence your health.

Research from 2004 through 2012 indicates that genetics and coronary artery disease are connected. Just because you have a family history of coronary artery disease doesn’t mean you will develop the disease. It just means that your risk factor is higher and you do whatever possible to monitor that risk.

Diet and exercise also affect your risk of coronary artery disease. You can make healthy food choices. You can make sure you exercise each week. The idea here is to focus on those things you can control and lower your risk for the areas you can not control.
