Self-Check: State Agencies
Federal and state agencies have similar goals but different methods. State governments do the following:
- Maintain vital statistics
- Sponsor education and prevention programs
- Fund (along with federal funds) health initiatives for counties and cities
Visit the state Department of Health website for your home of record, or the Virginia Department of Health website, by opening Google and using the search term "-name of state- Department of Health."
You will notice that your State Department of Health sponsors many programs and activities. Examine th types of activities that they sponsor and for whom. Are there programs that provide health services for people with low income? Can you describe what the state agencies do?
After your review, can you answer this question: Do you believe that state agencies provide essential services for the constituents?
