The U.S. government’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) maintains a collection of maps called Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). These maps are drawn up at the community level and show the risk to each community in the U.S. for flooding hazards. You can find a FIRM for your area by visiting the FEMA website and selecting your state, county, and area of interest. Below is a sample FIRM for a community in Zephyrhills, Florida. Review the presentation below to learn how to read a FIRM.
