Groundwater as a Natural Resource: Introduction
Pollution of Earth's surface water is easy to see and detect. But sometimes the pollution that is the most harmful is the pollution we cannot see. Groundwater is a hidden resource, buried beneath the land surface. It can be polluted just like surface water is polluted but groundwater pollution is much harder to see.
In this section you will learn about some important uses of groundwater and ways that human activities impact groundwater resources. You will learn how groundwater becomes contaminated and see what happens when groundwater is pumped out of the ground faster than precipitation can recharge it.
