Journal: Weathering in Your Own Backyard
Take a look around the outside of your home, school, or neighborhood, and look for examples of weathering. Remember that weathering can happen to rocks and soils, but it can also happen to other stone materials, such as sidewalks, buildings, and statues. Depending on where you live, you will find different examples of weathering.
Describe the examples of weathering that you find in your "backyard" in your journal. Describe how you think each example was accomplished and relate it to the environment in which you live. For example, if you see cracks in the sidewalks of your neighborhood, do you think they were caused by frost wedging or thermal stress? Could they have been caused by chemical or biological weathering? Your answers will depend on where you live.
Please write your journal entry in the Journal template. You will submit your journal at the end of this unit.
